People visiting these seminars or purchasing the materials being sold there are always on the lookout for working concepts, and it seems that NLP fits the bill.

Just like many other innovative ideas in the field of personal development, this one - too - was soon embraced and taken further by many noted authorities in the field who found many new approaches to the subject.

Of course, the application of NLP principles is a highly subjective field of study and application, and it has often been shown that what will work for one person may not actually have any results - beneficial or otherwise - for another.

Thus, many critics have chalked up this tool to the New Age craze of the 1970s, while others have instead opted to integrate its precepts and techniques into their self-help curricula and publications.

The goal for many a person using the tools and techniques is to overcome performance diminishing aspects of their own characters, such as fear of failure, fear of speaking before groups, or simply a lack of self esteem.

All these are viewed as being in direct opposition to the character traits that must be possessed by someone who will succeed in business, and anything that will help a person to get rid of these performance busters is considered well worth its cost.

If you take the time to visit the self help section of any bookstore, or if you simply veer off and visit the professional development section, you will find copious books that employ NLP techniques and tools in order to help the interested reader to overcome a large number of issues themselves, without the need for professional intervention.

Corporate Career Development Networking

As a natural part of my empowerment consulting practice, I often find myself in discussions with my clients about their jobs and careers. Sometimes we talk about new jobs or job opportunities; sometimes we talk about promotions; sometimes we talk about careers over the long-term.

These are all very different types of conversations. Most of my clients who are in corporations are mid-level to senior-level managers, who are competent and have already proven their value to the company. I also work with clients who are outside the corporate structure or are consultants to corporations, with whom career development conversations are different.

It is common for people to want to have a career development plan. Many think that those successful individuals who have preceded them in the corporation had a plan to get where they got. Some did, but quite honestly, it is easier for them to claim that they had a plan with the benefit of hindsight and success than to produce the plan they wrote years before.

There is a whole field of professionals who offer career development resources and consulting. I think their services can be extremely valuable, especially when moving from one company to another. I am more familiar with helping people to advance and develop careers within the same company, as an integral part of my consultations. And so, that is my focus in this article.

In these client conversations about career development within the same company, I usually fairly quickly replace the concept of a "career development plan" with a "career networking plan" or a "career development networking plan."

I've been working with a client who has been kicking and screaming about the idea of networking. She has been doing excellent work and feels she should be promoted based on her work. In one way, she's absolutely correct. However, at her level in the organization, not only are there fewer openings, but a group of disparate persons with their own agendas usually decides about promotions and job changes.

When multiple persons with all different needs are involved in such a decision, there must be agreement that she is the one to promote or accept or move. Such a scenario usually requires more than doing the requisite job skills well. In most cases, the "more" comes down to ongoing activities she must be engaged in: networking and building authentic relationships.

I want to be clear, when I speak about career development networking, I do not mean to start networking to get a job that is now in the interview stage; my view is that this narrow type of networking is more appropriately called "lobbying." Instead, I am speaking about networking over the years — building relationships that are two-way, developing collaborative partnerships, feeling appreciation about interactions, expressing sincere congratulations when others are promoted, and engaging in conversations about a variety of topics.

When many individuals are all well-qualified for a job, something "more" must stand out in the final candidate. This "more" may be related to job accomplishments, but likely, the "more" is related to relationships — perhaps the one who is best known, or the one who is most liked, or the one who has consistently good interactions with others.

The candidate who is well-networked is likely to increase the chances that all the decision-makers will agree, "this is the one." There might sometimes be a thrill about a hotly contested position, but all things considered, the best transitions take place when there's general agreement to select the final candidate.

Career Development Networking — a Starting Plan

First of all, it's important that you think of networking as two-way! This is essential. The word "networking" has become rather polluted by the way some persons are using this word. Use the word however you want, but please understand that here I am using it to mean an exchange. Be pragmatic, of course, but understand that you are only "networked" if a two-way connection is happening. This is absolutely essential to understand, if you want to make this an empowering practice.

In my empowerment consulting sessions, I'm often coaching clients about the best persons to network with, the subjects to speak about, and how to speak about the subjects. Those who are a little shy or reticent about speaking with someone at much higher levels sometimes just need this added encouragement to take the step to network.

Many successful people already understand the need to network within their company. They probably don't need a plan. Some jobs require that individuals know, interact, and partner with others in the company, and so they are usually well-networked naturally. If the company is large, though, there are many persons outside the scope of the current job who are potentials for expanding a network.

Here is a simple approach to getting started. Make two lists of persons in your company. The first is a list of the persons you already know and like. The second is a list of the persons you believe can, at some time, help you in your career — you may already know them or not. It is o.k. to have the same person on both lists; in fact, this strategy depends on that!

The intersecting subset of those two lists is the starting place. In other words, start your networking plan with the persons you like, whom you think can help you in your career. You will have more success by starting where it is easiest. Keep your lists updated over time, so that this is an organic process.

The next step is to decide, person by person, how and how often to network. Again, start where it is easiest. If you have regular meetings with someone on your target list, sit near the person, or suggest that you have lunch afterward, or take an interesting article to give to the person. If you consider you are already actively networking with this person, you may not need to adjust any actions. Just be certain to keep the person on your radar screen.

For best results, keep a journal of your networking. In your journal or on your calendar, make a notation for yourself for your next contact. By all means, do not over-commit yourself to starting to build too many new relationships at the same time. As a relationship is in the stage where either you and the other person are at ease to "call anytime," you have built a relationship, so continuing it is easier.

Networking is as simple as such examples as I've just given; a networking plan is also simple. It just requires some, ummmm, planning and paying attention.

When shopping for a new cell phone it can be difficult to discern the real value between the two giants of cell phone service. Verizon and Singular both proclaim to have unsurpassed service, quality pricing plans, and unbeatable rates. Most cell phone service searches on the internet pull up plenty of advertising with very little solid information and dependable reviews, thus researching these two companies can be little more effective than providing a headache.

When considering the two giants of cell phone service, one of the most basic issues to address is the service provided in your living room. Many people, especially the younger generations use cell phone service instead of a land line service. While both companies claim to provide better service than the leading competitor, having no cell phone service in the living room complicates things beyond reason. Whether or not a cell phone service won't drop your call becomes inconsequential if the cell phone won't even ring inside your home.

One of the easiest ways to determine whether or not each cell phone service provides adequate reception inside your home is to just borrow a friend's cell phone and use it inside your home. Note the cell phone service and if possible try it in various weather conditions. The quality of cell phone service you are receiving may very well settle the cell phone wars for you.

Some plans are better with Singular and others are better with Verizon. It is truly dependant upon how many phone lines you anticipate ending up with and how long and hard the cell phone is going to be used. Rollover, offered by Singular, is an excellent plan especially for a couple without children with cell phones. Month after month the leftover minutes really add up, and there is no limit to how many you can carry.

Despite the competitive pricing plans the cell phone wars have produced with the two giant companies, looking into one of the smaller cell phone companies can be very beneficial for the right circumstance. Verizon and Singular both tend to cater to families of three or more that require individual cell phones for each family member.

Deciding on a cell phone service is a commitment, and making a one or two year commitment with a company that you are dissatisfied with is not a wise decision. You will be stuck with the service even if you are not happy with it. Ask questions. A lot of questions. Ask the cell phone service providers, ask your family and ask your friends. A few real life opinions can go a long way in discerning the cell phone service that works best for your individual situation.

Sales Closing Tip #1: Write down and practice what you are going to say.

Much of the fear salespeople experience closing sales could be reduced or eliminated by proper preparation. Preparing for the situations that may arise and having a prepared and practiced response will decrease the fear when it comes time to close a sale.

A large majority of supposed sales professionals have no idea what they're going to say. Use this sales closing tip to eliminate your fear.

One main theme you will hear me teach over and over is preparation and practice. Preparing what you're going to say and practicing it until it becomes automatic are techniques used by all the top 10 percent of salespeople.

If you haven't thought out and written down what you're planning to say in every possible sales closing situation and then practiced how you will say it, over and over until it becomes second nature, you're probably part of the 90 percent. The time to practice is on the practice field, not on game day.

Professionals in all walks of life practice their craft on a daily basis. Professional Athletes practice every day, hitting buckets of golf balls, catching passes, spending time in the batting cage. Ten times as many hours are spent practicing than actual game time.

I have now been marketing online for around 7 years, I have tried every money making scheme going....gifting and pyramid schemes in my youth before I learned they were illegal, investment programs (lost a lot of money), get paid to read programs (a lot of work for a few lousy dollars), multi-level marketing programs, affiliate programs, you name it, I've tried it!

And along the way I've learnt a thing or two about marketing, recruiting, building downlines, making money online and most certainly losing money online...but does that make me a Guru? Am I now an expert in online marketing and homebased business? Well I certainly don't consider myself an expert or any such Guru - whatever that means.

But I have my own websites, I am part of a successful team in a fantastic MLM company, I work a couple of affiliate programs, I run a few blogs, I know a thing or two about marketing both on and offline, I write articles on the subject of internet marketing and homebased business and so on...

I read about many so called experts with 4, 5 or 6 years experience of internet marketing...they have written ebooks and courses about the subject, some even hold conferences and training calls about it but are they really experts? I have read many ebooks written by these experts and more often or not they teach me nothing knew.

I do not consider myself an expert or an internet marketing Guru. I do have plenty of experience and am more than willing to pass on what I have learnt over the years. But I am still learning...I still search out good ebooks to read, search out new marketing techniques to master and so on...we should all be learning all the time. We should never sit back and think we are now an expert on something. Pass on your knowledge to others but keep learning....

How To Format Your Autoresponder Messages

You want to earn money online. Then it is important to show people that you handle your business as a professional. Well formatted autoresponder messages are an absolute must if you want people to feel confident with your business.

If you use the internet regularly, you have received at least a few e-mails that look "out of shape".

This is either the result of multiple forwarding, or poor formatting on the part of the sender. Not many people would try to interpret this kind of mess if it was sent to them by a stranger, even if the information was requested. How can you avoid giving your autoresponder messages that choppy, I-can-not-use-a-computer feel?

First, you should understand why this occurs. Every e-mail program is different, allowing different line lengths for their viewing windows. If your e-mail program allows 75 characters per line, it may look fine on your screen. But when you send it to someone whose program allows only 70 characters per line, those last five characters get moved to the next line and break up your message.
Another potential problem is the font you choose. Fonts like Courier New are fixed-width: every character takes up the same amount of space. But fonts like Times New Roman (the default font for most word processing programs) and Arial have varying width according to the character: an "i" takes up less space than a "w" and so forth. This variance in space creates the same broken effect as the line length problem.

Keep your messages in a fixed-width font (10-point size is best in nearly every case) and make sure each line is 60 to 65 characters long. When you reach the limit, use a hard return to start the next line rather than allowing your word processing program to wrap the text. If you are using Microsoft Word to compose your messages, there is a counter at the bottom of the window that tells you what line and character number you are on as you type (this reads Ln ## Col ##) which you can use to ensure you are staying at 65 or less. You can also create a guide at the top of the page you are working on (you will delete the guide after you finish your message) that will allow you to determine your line length at a glance.

Another way to avoid sending garbled messages is to save them in a universal format. Many people mistakenly believe ASCII works on all computers, but this is not the case. You should save (and copy and paste) your messages in either Plain Text (this is almost always in Courier New font) or Rich Text format (the format every word processing program can open, which allows you to preserve color, bold and italic text). You will find these file formats listed in the Save As dropdown box on your Save window.

As every business owner knows, almost every business is born from a passion for “some thing” that we think we can do better on our own. The need for freedom, independence and unlimited earning potential gets the better of us and the next thing you know, you are in business for yourself.

Most of us start our business with a very idealistic vision of what’s possible, pour hundreds of hours with very little financial return for the first few years only to realize we’ve taken a very hard road to success.

Take my client Michele PW for example. She started as a “freelancer.” She would work tirelessly, 10, 12, 14 hours a day, writing copy until she had enough money to pay her bills. Then, exhausted and burned out, she wouldn’t work again until she needed more money. Frustrated that she couldn’t break the $50k mark, she realized one day that her freelancer mindset was getting in the way of creating the level of success she really desired.

It’s at this point in the game that an opportunity surfaces. The entrepreneur must make a decision. Most of us up to this point have been playing with a hobby, thinking more like a free-lancer than someone who expects to be quite successful in business. The excitement of our craft is more interesting than all that stuff that it takes to run a business (like bookkeeping, marketing, sales, etc.) The future is unknown so we just focus on today. Profit is a mystery…so we don’t really even look at planning and revenue.

But the problem is there are certain things you MUST DO to truly create a business. The IRS considers you a hobby, and taxes you appropriately, if certain success indicators are not in place. If you don’t have these indicators in place in YOUR BUSINESS, you really don’t have a business at all…you just have a hobby.

Now it’s OK to have a hobby that you love. But if you have a hobby you must be realistic about your income potential and goals. If you have a hobby, you just won’t have the time, resources or financial capital to get past a certain point of success.

Here are a Six Successful Business Owner Indicators:

1. You operate in a business-like manner. You have an LLC or Corporation status, not a self-employed status with your bank accounts intermingled. You also have a business identify with a recognizable brand, marketing collateral and a presence in your industry.

2. Cocktail napkin drawings and random post-it notes don’t count. You take the time to create and follow a written business plan.

3. You are making a profit (or are working towards it.) This is crucial. Viability is a major distinction between a hobby and a business. Hobbies don’t have to make money. Businesses do.

4. You continue to focus on improving your business operations. A hobby is there for the sheer passion factor. A business requires you to continually assess what’s working and what’s not – and fix it.

5. You have a team. You can’t have a successful business without help. It’s impossible. If you are doing it alone, you are missing a key ingredient for profitability and long-term success.

6. You and your team continue to educate yourself on how to run a successful business. Do you have a budget set aside for education and training? Do you consciously plan not just for marketing training but real for leadership, management and fundamental business mentoring?

These are just a few of the indicators to consider if you desire a business that is positioned for consistent six and seven figure revenue. If you are someone who wants to have meaning in your life, make a difference in your community and have passion for your work, creating a business with the proper systems and infrastructure is an important investment.

I'd know, because in one whole month, I never even made half of what they promised I'd make daily with their programs. Maybe you've already been scammed by one of these fraudsters. Anyway, I finally got sick of what was being offered.
I decided I'd look through the all of the "get rich quick" programs I could find and see if there were any that were actually legitimate. I found that there were owners selling their programs for well over $100, but the information in them could be found almost anywhere online for free. Additionally, they all contained out-of-date information, had no e-mail support, no money back guarantees, and broken links in the downloads section.
In conclusion, almost all of the programs I found were completely useless. The owners knew it, but they couldn't care less about their customers since they didn't offer refund policies! If you list an item from $1.00-9.99, your initial fee will be .35 cent and so on. Once your item has sold, you will also be charged a "final value fee." EBay also offers EBay stores, which allow you to sell many items in an online store. When listing an item, you usually list a BIN (Buy it Now) price. There is no auction involve. In your online store, you can list prices as well as pictures of the item. This is a good route to go if you plan on selling multiple items of different colors, shapes or use.

Be sure to list pictures. People love to see pictures of the items their bidding on. You even have the option of placing multiple pictures on your auction site. Try to get different angles when taking pictures. Get close-ups of any detailed work. When taking the picture, be sure to get it in the right lighting and best background. Appearance sells!

When listing a price at auction, it's best to start low. This will attract more buyers to your item. If someone is interested in your craft and they want to watch it to see the bids being placed on it, they can put it in their "watch." You will know how many people are taking interest in your item because the number of watches shows up beside the item in your account.

When listing your craft, be sure to give plenty of detail. If there is a default in the craft, make sure you explain that in the description. Also describe the color and the size of the item. About two months ago, a publisher from Canada contacted me to let me know that he had found online one of my articles, “12 common mistakes new entrepreneurs make and how to avoid them”, loved it, and asked if he could reprint it in his next edition. Guess what my answer was? “Of course, you are welcome!” I said, with a big smile.

The article was printed at the beginning of this month and as a result, I already have 3 new clients. Isn’t it great? And that is not the first time that I have experienced this kind of result. One of my articles was also recently featured in Africa and I got my first client from the Burkina-Faso. I would never have imagined 4 years ago, that having a business specializing in networking in New York City, would one day lead to me getting clients from Canada, Australia or Africa. Never!

So how could you too get clients from all over the world just by sitting behind your computer? If you are not doing it yet - start writing articles!

About 2 years ago, a friend of mine who had a website that specialized in French people living and working in New York, asked me if I could write articles (in French) for her website, since I was doing seminars on how to find a job in New York. I had never thought about it before but I said, ‘Why not!’ So for a year I wrote a number of articles. Then a publisher from New York asked if I would like to write an article in English for his magazine. I said “No, I can’t, my English is not good enough to write, there is no way I can do that”. About six months later he asked me again, and I said no again, because I didn’t think I was ready for it. But then I thought about it and realized that I was using my English as an excuse and I was just procrastinating.

And I was actually surprised that I enjoyed the process and it was much easier than I originally thought. So I wrote a second one and it took me only two hours this time, and then a third one. And I realized that I had so many things to say that I couldn’t stop writing. And it was this that led to me writing my book “Start Your Dream Business Today”. So I went from one article to a book. I now write and publish online a new article every month.

If you think that you don’t know how to write or will not be able to write, just try and you will be very surprised. And it is probably easier for you than it was for me, since English is your first language.

1/ Write articles, it is free. It will take some of your time, but who better than you can speak about your expertise, your services and your products. Writing articles shows people that they can trust you, and it builds up your image and your credibility as an expert.

2/ Post your articles online. You can post your articles on various ezine directories like www.ezinearticles.com. You can find at least a hundred of them looking on Google. Some are free, for others you have to pay a small fee.

3/ Take advantage of the resource box “About the Author”. Make sure to include the benefit of your services, offer a free report, mention your newsletter and of course mention your website. People like free stuff, so when offering a free sample of your work, people will be more willing to check your website and sign-up for your newsletter to get the information they are looking for.

4/ Grow your list with your target market. How would you like to have your target market coming to you instead of chasing it? When people find and read your articles online, it is because they are interested by the topic. The chances are they would like to learn more about the topic and more about you, so they will go to your website to do this. Writing articles geared towards your target audience will save you lots of money compared to communicating via a more classic advertisement. It will also ensure that a higher volume of people visit your site. When you promote your products or services on your newsletter, people will get the chance to know you and trust you and when the time comes, they will buy your products or services.

Why a Picture is Worth More Than a 1,000 Words on the Web…it Could be Worth Big Money!

We have all heard the old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well that couldn’t ring more true than on the web when you are selling a drop ship product. I have seen many online stores sell the same exact product and yet only a select few are making all the money, why? Because these online store owners took the time to find ways to be more creative in grabbing the attention of this "would be buyer." They pay attention to the details and make sure to get a good quality product picture.

Let’s face it, sometimes on the Web, the only thing that separates a product from selling or not is the picture. You maybe asking, “What makes a good product picture?” Good question. A good product picture depicts the item in a proper background setting. Let’s say you sell coffee tables online. A proper background setting for a coffee table would be a cozy living room, or sitting room setting. I have seen many online retailers try to sell a high end item like a coffee table with a plain white background and seem perplexed as to why it isn’t selling. White background pictures look nice and clean, but they are less effective. White background pictures are less effective for a few reasons:

1. It will not give the buyer an indication of size relative to other things. Sure, there might be a product description that says and item is 23 inches in height, but how tall is 23 inches. Some folks know how much 23 inches can be physically. Others don't have a clue and wonder if it taller than a couch, a chair, or a foot stool? Remember, these folks are customers too. Do you want their business? A picture of the item in a natural setting such as a living room can be a tremendous help to these customers.

2. A white background picture does not help a person visualize how the item would look in a setting. Seeing the item in a setting helps them visualize it better for their situation.

3. Finally, the lighting in a white background picture can do the item little justice. The best pictures use real natural lighting as this allows the natural colors of the item to come across. Most white background pictures have been taken with hundreds of watts of light beaming at the object. Unless you live in a high intensity plant phototron, the item will never look the same as it does in the picture.

Another problem I have seen, in regards to pictures, is the picture is too small or fuzzy and a customer cannot make out any of the details. If you want to make the sale, it is vitally important that your customer is able to make out the details in a product picture. This is especially important with higher end items. There is no room for error on the Web. With the right quality of photo, you can definitely improve your chances of getting the sale.

Most online store owners are unaware of the vast power a great product picture could have on their sales. It is important to remember that you only have one chance to make that sale. You need to be creative and really stand out above the masses of online stores. If you really want to get ahead online…get the picture! Below are some top secret methods for getting a premium picture for your online store, the methods below are used by the most successful online stores today.

1) Always, always, always get a catalog style picture for the product you are selling. If the manufacturer or importer only offers white background photos or worse yet, out of focus product pictures we suggest moving on. Because the chances of selling an item with a bad picture is highly unlikely.

2) Get a high resolution image of the product picture for better product clarity. Usually 300 dpi works best.

3) If a high quality image is not currently available on a particular item but you would still like to sell the product, I would recommend ordering a sample of the product and having a professional photographer take some new pictures of it in a styled setting. Yes, this will cost you a little money…but think about how much money you could make once you have the high quality product picture on your site.

4) Learn how to use photo editing software. This is the key secret most online store owners are currently using. We know many online retailers who use photo editing software when all they have to work with is a product on a white background. We have seen garden item pictures on a white background be super imposed onto a beautiful garden setting, and the sales for that same garden item go through the roof. Photo editing is easier than you think, and you can learn all about it by getting a book out of the library, or taking a class on the subject at your local community college.
